Release Notes for Darkstone Restoration Demo

Demo Update (Jul 16 2026)

Demo Update

A big update to the demo, packed with performance work, new options and fixes.

Performance & Stability
- Major optimization pass for a steadier framerate: stutters and hiccups tracked down and smoothed out, for consistent performance even in demanding moments.
- Fixed black screens that could happen on some transitions.

Display & Graphics
- New display-mode selector: borderless, fullscreen or windowed.
- Adaptive resolution that quietly adjusts to hold a steady framerate on lower-end hardware, while keeping the interface sharp.
- Optional semi-transparent UI to keep the HUD out of your way.
- Optional life bars above every monster so you can read enemy health at a glance.
- New Legacy Text option that brings back the original fonts.

Controls & Camera
- Sticky mouse aiming for easier targeting.
- Adjustable right-click tolerance so aiming a spell no longer fights with rotating the camera.
- Option to invert the vertical camera axis.
- Smoother camera elevation with the Shift key.

Gameplay
- Auto-save so you never lose your progress or items left on the ground.
- XP sharing between characters.
- Stutter-cast and stutter-attack: a quick move cancels the recovery after a cast or a swing, so you can keep the pressure on without pausing.
- Various balance and fairness tweaks (spell costs, magic damage, thrown weapons and more).

Audio
- New dedicated volume slider for monster cries, softened so distant creatures sit better in the mix.

Fixes & Polish
- Item-giving NPCs now correctly show up and hand over their item.
- Chests and barrels tucked into a corner or niche are now reachable.
- Scrolls cast with the right mouse button now show a proper targeting cursor and are no longer lost if you cancel.
- Gold stacks now top up correctly even when your inventory is full.
- The character wheel on the New Game screen no longer plays a click sound.

Thanks for trying the demo, and please keep the feedback coming!
