Introduction:
One fix.

Additions/Improvements/Changes:

Beta.40 (2023-11-12)

STAR FLEET II VERSION 2 PATCH NOTES Version Number: Beta.40 Date: 11/11/2023

Introduction: This patch makes eliminates the code that was included for playtesting in order to make it ready for V2.0 release and some minor bug fixes and tweaks.

Additions/Improvements:

  1. The decrease in the crew's morale when you run out of supplies and have to start rationing has been tweaked.
  2. Delivery of the Klink Drive from Dept. Q has been modified to match the manual.

Fixes:

  1. When a star was destroyed, the starliner routes map still showed it even though its location was shown off the star map.
  2. Starbases were getting phasers and shields knocked out while their shields were still high (~90%).

Beta.39 (2023-11-11)

STAR FLEET II VERSION 2 PATCH NOTES Version Number: Beta.39 Date: 11/10/2023

Introduction: This patch makes a couple minor adjustments and fixes one bug.

Additions/Improvements:

  1. The threshold level for the LOW PWR and LOW SUP warnings has been modified to be 25% of maximum level instead of a set quantity, which would make it 20% each for both warnings for the upgraded battlecruiser (Flagship). This makes it consistent with the documentation.
  2. When you get the LOW PWR warning and you are not at RED ALERT status, then the XO will lower your shields to save power, regardless of the setting of the AAS.

Fixes:

  1. Escorts were unable to dock with a captured starbase when initially asked to do so. They could dock later with a Rendezvous command. Fixed - they will now dock initially.

2.02 (2023-11-26)

STAR FLEET II VERSION 2 PATCH NOTES Version Number: 2.0.02 Date: 11/23/2023

Introduction: A few bugs have been fixed. Some improvements in instructions for new cadets have been made.

Additions/Improvements:

  1. When a new recruit signs on, they are told to read the Training Manual before starting a mission.
  2. Turorials no longer show the Mission Orders, and they are not accessible within the game to avoid confusion. The Career page is also not available. Trying to access orders results in an error that can be ignored, and this will be fixed in the next patch.

Fixes:

  1. When you change the pitch of the engine sound using Ctrl+E, the new frequency is now saved and used. Previously it was being lost.
  2. Detonating a probe from a star map while it was in flight messed up the Launch Control display. FIXED
  3. In Material Transfer if the target had negative power, it showed as infinity instead of zero. FIXED
  4. In the Command Tree for Computer/Special Services, the "Quit" command highlight was one row off. FIXED
  5. If you run out of energy or low on supplies, the captives weren't being killed off (Please note, killed captives aren't being added to the mission tally, this will be fixed in the next patch). FIXED

2.01 (2023-11-19)

STAR FLEET II VERSION 2 PATCH NOTES Version Number: 2.0.01 Date: 11/18/2023

Introduction: A few bugs have been reported. This build fixes the most urgent ones. Another build will take care of the remaining.

Additions/Improvements:

  1. For the description of Prize Crews in the Ship Information System (SIS) accessed by Ctrl+I, it now explains that if you have <11 shock troops left on the captured UGAS after boarding, only 1 Shock Trooper will be left and you will have to add the other 9 troopers required for a prize crew using the Personnel Transfer function in the Teleporters.
  2. Version 1.5b has been added to the extras folder. Thanks to desseim on GOG for the idea.

Fixes:

  1. In the introduction to a new Altern, the end of one of the lines is missing. It says "...a disciple of Emperor Henri" - it should read "...disciple of Emperor Henri Zae IV and strive". FIXED
  2. In the final Mission Tally shown after the completion of the game, selecting "Orders" caused the program to freeze. FIXED
  3. Pressing Ctrl+Z during the game causes the Time Left to go almost to zero (or a negative number) and activates the LOW TME warning. This was a debug command that was meant to test the end of the mission. FIXED (it has been disabled)
  4. In a long mission, a series of file errors can occur when the program tries to archive the SPD files. PARTIALLY FIXED (if there is a file error detected, it will disable the SPD function to prevent this from occurring with future dockings. A permanent fix will be sought).
  5. The Career Update Summary accessed through Computer/Special Services/Career mistakenly shows that a rank of Subadmiral or above is required to upgrade your battlecruiser. It should be Prefect, not Subadmiral. FIXED
  6. In this same command option, the values and columns in the Career Statistics display do not match up. FIXED

2.0.9 and 2.0.10 (2024-01-29)

STAR FLEET II VERSION 2 PATCH NOTES Version Number: 2.0.9 Date: January 9, 2024

Introduction: This is a test version.

Additions/Improvements/Changes:

  1. Career Statistic Display was unable to handle some large numbers, such as Booty or Fines. It also had problems displaying large numbers which could overflow the space available. The table has been enlarged to handle larger numbers, and the Career Statistics file has been changed to handle larger numbers. For Example, the total number of Krels obtained in Booty was limited to 65,535. If there were more Krels than that, it would show a negative number. I've changed the critical numbers so their upper limit is over 1 million. This means the old career statistics files are no longer compatible with the game. When you log on, it checks to see if you have the new stats file or the old one. If the old one, it will automatically convert it to the new one and you will get a message that the career stats file is being converted. From then on it should be no problem. During the conversion, if it comes across a number that is negative because it's too large, it will convert it to the maximum size of 65,535.

Fixes:

  1. When bombarding a planet with your escorts and you change their Targeting orders from Bombard to something else (other than Hold Fire), although they will stop hitting the planet, they will still be using torps like they were firing. - FIXED
  2. An Escort can sometimes lose it's name. If this happens, call up the Escorts orders (Alt+Z) and a new name will be assigned to the escort. Immediately save the game so the name is permanently attached.
  3. OBB Status Box cannot handle OpET values >=10 or the number overwrites the allocated space - FIXED
  4. OBB was started with a Krellan base on the planet (there cannot be a base there for OBB) - FIXED
  5. While OBB was underway, it was possible to beam LP down to the planet (not allowed) - FIXED

============================================================================ STAR FLEET II VERSION 2 PATCH NOTES Version Number: 2.0.10 Date: January 24, 2024

Introduction: This is a test version.

Additions/Improvements/Changes:

  1. A description of the ship logs has been added to the SIS (Ctrl+I).

Fixes:

  1. Made corrections to Career Statistics.
  2. Booty and Fines values don't line up with others in Career Statistics Display - FIXED
  3. Mat and Pers Xfer don't work if your target has left orbit but has not left the location of the planet yet - FIXED
  4. In the Planets DB table, the last character of the name space is not cleared - FIXED
  5. Escort in hyperspace headed to planet and orders were changed to Go To Station. It immediately dropped into normal space in the local system but did not appear on any of the displays or scans - FIXED
  6. In the Hots Keys menu, the Commander's Log was listed as the Personal Log - FIXED

2.0.8 (2024-01-08)

STAR FLEET II VERSION 2 PATCH NOTES Version Number: 2.0.5 Date: December 27, 2023

Introduction: Several bugs have been fixed, but I am still working on others. A couple of new features or changes have also been made.

Additions/Improvements/Changes:

  1. When the XO asks if you want to board an enemy ship after it surrendered, you no longer have to select the ship after answering "Y". The XO and your crew know which ship it is.
  2. "Blinky" now uses his full name, "Blinky Bill".
  3. When you go to Alignment Mode (Alt+O while not moving in normal space), the mode will show "ALIGNMNT" to remind you that you are in this special static mode. I have also redefined the colors of some of the modes.
  4. In the Planetary Invasion module, I've added a warning that if you attempt to quit before the invasion is complete the invasion will be considered a failure and all your legions involved in the invasion will be lost. It then suggests that if you want to temporarily quit, you should save the game and then exit to DOS (Ctrl+X).

Fixes:

  1. In Practice Mode it goes straight to Sign-On Options after the Mission Tally instead of giving you the chance to delete files - FIXED
  2. In information displayed to a new cadet, "manual" was misspelled as "manaual" - FIXED
  3. When standard probes are detonated from Engineering (i.e., while on the Bridge Display), part of the Launch Control box remained on top of the Bridge Display when you exited Launch Control - FIXED
  4. Deleting files from End of Mission and from Resume Game option not being handled properly - FIXED
  5. There was a Gaseous (G class) planet in Krellan space that had a Krellan base on it and was listed as being a Krellan Planet (but had no personnel). No G-class planet should have a base on it - FIXED
  6. After a successful invasion, the troopships have no drop ships - FIXED
  7. From Resume Game option in Sign-on Options, it was not possible to delete saved invasions - FIXED
  8. The information option in the Battlecruiser selection display was out of date (stated you needed to be Subadmiral instead of Prefect for upgrade) - FIXED
  9. Captives beamed up from planet not counted in Mission Tally - FIXED

=============================================================================== Version Number: 2.0.6 Date: January 01, 2024

Additions/Improvements/Changes:

  1. When a supply ship went into orbit of a planet with a Krellan base, although it was supplying energy, supplies, torps, etc., it was not supplying personnel to the base. Now the supply ship will send all but 50 of its crew and 10 shock troops to the base.

Fixes:

  1. When in Weapons Settings Table, the shortcut to the Main Menu isn't working - FIXED
  2. Escorts set to Bombardment targeting not bombarding planet sometimes - FIXED?
  3. Commander's Log not disabled in Tutorials - FIXED
  4. Auto-targeting for Advanced Probes sometimes misses valid star systems - FIXED
  5. In the LP Assignment Table, if you have Supplies allocated for the LP and you change the number of teams being allocated to the LP, the number of days the supplies will last does not change - FIXED

  4. In the Career Statistics Display, if the total for Passengers or Captives exceeds 65565, then the number was wrong - FIXED
  5. In orbit of a planet in the same system as a colony, torps fired at an orbital target would hit an Orb Fort (but causing no damage), which was orbiting the colony and not the planet your ship is orbiting. FIXED

=============================================================

Version Number: 2.0.4 Date: December 10, 2023

Introduction: Version 2.0.3 was a test version only and not released to the user community.

Additions/Improvements:

  1. A new Hot Key shortcut has been added for the Performance Mode. This switches between two methods of writing some data to the screen, using either DOS functions or the BIOS functions. One is slower (NORMAL Mode) than the other (TURBO Mode). The default value is TURBO Mode, but some players want to slow combat down and like to temporarily switch it to NORMAL Mode. This can be done through the Settings Panel in the Sign-On Options ("C" - change settings) or in the game itself by accessing the same panel through the Computer/Special Services. This takes time to do and is a bit clumsy, so the new shortcut has been added: [Ctrl][M] (for Mode). It can also now be changed through the Hot Keys command [Ctrl][H]. You can see the current setting of the switch in Engineering/Engineering Data/Logistics.
  2. An enhancement has been made to upgraded probes. In the Operations table, you could view the location of the probe currently highlighted, or you could use the multi-probe selection feature to view the location of multiple probes. There is now the option to view the location of ALL the probes. If you select [S]how locn without multiple probes being selected, it will ask you if you want to view the locations of all the probes. If "Y" then the Ops Table disappear and you will see the locations of the probes. A new feature added for this and multiple-probes option is that the color of the probes will match their mode as displayed in the Ops Table. Destroyed (by any means) probes are also now included (all in red). There is also a shortcut for viewing all the probes. Press [Shift][S] instead of just [S] from the probes menu.

Fixes:

  1. In the Boarding Display after the enemy ship has been captured, the number of captives taken did not include the Space Marines and thus did not match the number of captives transported to your ship - FIXED
  2. When you have the LOW SUP warning, captives are not fed and gradully die off, but they were not dying fast enough. Also, if you went to secuirty during this time, the captives health could be shown as "good" instead of "poor" - FIXED
  3. Killed captives from LOW SUP or LOW POW (when all the remaining captives are killed) or normal execution does not update the Mission Tally - FIXED 4.The message from a supply ship that it is running low on cargo and headed to another supply ship did not include the name of the target ship - FIXED
  4. Ship could downgrade from RED ALERT and drop shields when going into orbit around a UGA planet - FIXED
  5. Setup for Mission 3-E modified to ensure there are at least 4 planets that can be bombarded into submission.
  6. When orbiting a hostile TL5+ planet that has bot been surveyed and you send a message demanding it surrender, it would respond with an insult message, even though it was unsruveyed. It will now not respond (with a possible rare exception) - FIXED

2.0.18 (2025-10-20)

Version Number: 2.0.18 Date: October 19, 2025

Introduction: Some bug fixes.

Additions/Improvements/Changes: None

Fixes:

  1. Mission 3-D would not recognize destroyed or sterilized planets as fulfilling mission - fixed.
  2. On TARGET DISPLAY while in orbit, the position of the O.POS value is one column off - fixed.
  3. Other minor bug fixes.

2.0.17 (2025-09-17)

Version Number: 2.0.17 Date: September 15, 2025

Introduction: Some new features and some bug fixes.

Additions/Improvements/Changes:

  1. When a planet is destroyed (annihilated) by obliterator pods or a super nova, it is retained in the planet databases, although it is designated as having been destroyed.
  2. There is a new shortcut to view the landing parties database and a couple resultant changes in the shortcuts. Here are the new designations:
    • [Alt][K]: shortcut to landing parties database (was previously the message box retention switch for the star maps)
    • [Ctrl][M]: message box retention in star maps switch (was previously [Alt][K])
    • [Ctrl][P]: performance mode toggle switch (was previously [Ctrl][M])
  3. A dynamic indicator has been added to the Tactical Display that shows when a ship has jumped into hyperspace. Note that this occurs at its new jump position, which is not exactly the same as the previous plotted position in the Tactical Display. This was added per a suggestion of a player.
  4. Several new topics have been added to the Ship Information System (SIS), i.e., the ship's onboard Wiki.

Fixes:

  1. Fixed formatting error in TARGET DISPLAY when orbit status changed.
  2. When Help requested from KHQ, got response "No help available" when help was actually ordered - fixed.
  3. When a lower rank presses [I] in Fleet Command, you get a "FUNCTION NOT AVAILABLE AT THIS RANK" message that results in an endless loop - fixed.
  4. On the Landing Parties database, selecting detailed status of a LP on the second page shows the detailed status of the corresponding LP on the first page - fixed

2.0.16 (2024-05-08)

Version Number: 2.0.16 Date: May 5, 2024

Introduction: Only one minor fix.

Additions/Improvements/Changes: None

Fixes:

  1. When you are prompted for your player's name upon starting up and you just press [Enter] to look at the Fleet (players) List, it only allows you to view the list and not select the commander you want to play. It will now allow you to select that commander from the list and it will automatically be put into the name entry space, where you will then be prompted for the password. This just streamlines the entry process.

2.0.15 (2024-04-14)

STAR FLEET II VERSION 2 PATCH NOTES Version Number: 2.0.14 Date: March 18, 2024

Introduction: This was a test version.

Additions/Improvements/Changes:

  1. In the Orbital Display, when the Science/Scanners option is selected, the Description Box for the object in the Target Designator Box (TDB) will also show the orbital position of the object if it is a Krellan ship, UGA ship, or Orbital Fort (but not your escorts). The orbital position has the format "O:" that shows the orbit type ("H", "M", or "L" for High, Medium, or Low orbits respectively) followed by the position in that orbit ("P:"). The zero position for each orbit is at the bottom of the planet and increments in a CW direction.
  2. This same orbital position format is now used in the TARGET DATA display when in orbit. The orbit type is replaced by the letter instead of the numbers 0, 1, 2 (high, medium, low).
  3. In the Fleet Maintenance (login Fleet/Manager), the Service Record (SrvRcd) maintenance is now partially functional. You can list the Service Record which shows the values for each entry in the record along with its meaning. You can select [All] to view the entire Service Record file or you can select a player number to view the record for only that player. You can also select the Modify Option, which partially works. You first select the player whose record you want to modify (from the Fleet Personnel list), then select the entry you want to change. You will be prompted for the new value or just press [Enter] to leave it unchanged. There is an option [A] to look at the list of awards so you can determine the correct number corresponding to each award. Currently, only the initial screen of records can be shown in the Modify option ([PgDn] and [PgUp] don't work yet). In this version, any changes you make are not kept.

Fixes: None

Introduction: This is a test version.

Additions/Improvements/Changes: None

Fixes:

  1. When trying to beam up your Landing Party (LP) from a planet with a base that has extra crew and shock troops, instead of just your selected Landing Parties beaming up, all the Krellan personnel on the planet beam up - FIXED
  2. If there is a LP on a planet, then you are unable to use the Personnel Transfer in Teleporters to beam up personnel not in your LP - FIXED 3.Orbiting a planet with a base, Personnel Transfer will beam captives to the planet and doesn't allow personnel transfer - FIXED.
  3. Took steps to reduce the possibility of getting system errors being reported from Engineering.

2.0.13 (2024-03-09)

Introduction: This was a test version.

Additions/Improvements/Changes:

  1. In the War Map, at Level 7 (Admiral), any hostile colonies, the location of which are known, will show the star system symbol in bright yellow. A starbase in the same system will have preference on the map.
  2. In the Star Systems Database, the status symbol of the system ownership (Krellan, UGA, Neutral, or unknown) will also show in bright yellow if a colony is known to be in the system.

Fixes:

  1. If Operation Big Brother (OBB) is underway on the planet you are orbiting, the XO says the LP on the planet is not yours and you cannot use Personnel Transfer in Teleporters to beam any personnel up or down- FIXED
  2. On star maps, the description of the object being highlighted by the Target Designator Box (TDB) sometimes does not blank out all the space from the previous object - FIXED
  3. In LP Database table, got an "integer divide by zero" error and "unable to load file" error message when it reached the quantity and duration of supplies value for one particular LP - FIXED
  4. A colony was captured and one legion was left on it as occupiers, but a subsequent probe that scanned the planet reported UGA presence - FIXED

  4. In the Space Forces table in Strategic Command, the last entry in the Orders box will scroll the box up (messing up the top line) if the planet's name is maximum length - FIXED
  5. Occasionally, for no apparent reason, a Krellan ship (including your escorts) will lose its name, which is be replaced by a blank. Although I have not found the cause of this, the game will automatically do a repair if it happens and assign a new name to the ship. This check and fix occurs whenever you or another KS enters a new system.
