Hello everyone, here's the big patch we've been working on for quite some time now. This is a combined 01.05 and 01.06 patch for users who own the game via GOG Galaxy.
To cut a very long story short, the save system needed a rewrite from the ground up in terms of how certain delay actions were handled. That in combination with an Unreal Engine version update to something more modern took a lot longer than intended. We also didn't want to rush out a patch that could make save file issues even worse than they already were.
Thank you for being so patient while we got this out the door, with an especially big shoutout to our GOG players, who had to wait a bit longer while we dealt with some issues that arose from the 01.05 patch on Steam. Rather than release a 01.05 on GOG which still contained a few big issues, all of those bugs were fixed as soon as possible, and around 48 hours after the Steam release of 01.06, we now have a GOG release containing all the 01.05 and 01.06 fixes, along with Achievements via the GOG platform for the first time.
I've tested this patch with multiple playthroughs - achievements and save issues appear to be a thing of the past when playing from a fresh savefile. For existing savefiles, some will work, but others may be broken beyond repair. We recommend you give your existing savefile a try if you're just looking to get a quick achievement pop for projectors (5, 10, 15 & 20 complete), but that you play with a fresh savefile now that the game is much more reliable.
Please make sure you are playing with the 1.06 patch before emailing us a savefile. You can check this by the readme file in the game's directory (if there is no readme, it's not 1.05 or newer). Alternatively, there is a new patch version number in the top-right corner of the options menu.
There has also been a system requirements adjustment for Redux - please see the section at the bottom.
New Features: Added Achievements to the GOG platform! Users playing Ether One Redux via GOG will be able to unlock achievements.
If you are encountering strange mouse speed issues, can't turn around at all, or find that the game is defaulting to Polish language, we recommend that you delete all config files in the C:\Users\YourUserName\Documents\My Games\EtherOne\Saved\Config\ folder. They will be regenerated the next time you launch the game. You can also try opening the input settings menu and selecting 'reset to defaults'.
If you find an issue we are unaware of in Patch 1.0.5 or higher, you can let us know by emailing support@whitepapergames.com
On PC, some users playing with only a keyboard and mouse may need to set their Windows keyboard language to English (UK) or English (US) to ensure that they can type passwords on the computers in the game. Users playing Ether One Redux with a gamepad can use the on-screen keyboard, which is shown automatically, to type text into the blackboard puzzles.
Save files can be found in Documents/My Games/EtherOne/Saved/SaveGames/.
If you encounter strange resolution settings, you can reset your configurations by deleting the ini files at Documents/My Games/EtherOne/Saved/Config/WindowsNoEditor. On the first launch, Ether One will attempt to set its resolution to that of the current desktop resolution or the maximum possible.
Some Antivirus software may temporarily constrain Ether One on it's first launch, which causes the game to crash before opening. This typically happens twice, once for EtherOne.exe in the main folder, and again for EtherOne-Win64-Shipping.exe in the Game Binaries folder. After these scans have finished, Ether One should launch without crashing. Antivirus is most likely to scan and constrain Ether One after the game is patched, as the exe is modified with each update.
Some savefiles from previous versions of the game may be unrecoverable due to an irregularity in the savegame function (now fixed). You should try your old savefiles, but to be safe, playthroughs from scratch with patch 1.0.5 are recommended. Some achievements will auto-unlock (projector ones) if your old savefile correctly loads. Some areas of Brimclif are slightly darker than before - this is due to a tweak in lighting setups in Unreal Engine between 4.8.3 and 4.22.3. We recommend you grab the artefact from Industrial first and use this to light the way in Brimclif. You can also boost the brightness of the game in the options.
System Requirements adjustment:
Due to using a newer version of Unreal Engine, Patch 01.06 of Ether One Redux will only run on 64-bit Windows Operating Systems. We have been unable to test compatibility with older operating systems such as Windows 7.
Q. What about other Platforms? A. With patch 01.06, Steam is now stable, and GOG should match that exactly. We're now looking into a PS4 patch to fix all the same issues on there, but this is at the discretion of the platform holder.
Thanks again for your patience, and Happy Restoring,
