Beta 1.9 (2024-01-23)
New year, new patch: Dev Update & Stealth System!
Dev Update
Progress has been steady through the holidays and is accelerating once again. The final floors after Special Projects have been completed and will be revealed when StarCrawlers Chimera launches this year. When this year? Announcement coming soon!
Currently, the dev focus is shifting away from content development into refinement. Subsequent patches will focus on iterating on damage numbers, mob health, gear / weapon stats, and moving away from placeholder test values towards “real” numbers. The last few content patches (most of which will remain hidden until launch) will be focused on adding in Kickstarter backer content, and story and lore content.
Have a question about the state of a particular feature? Let me know in the comments or jump in Discord and ask away!
Thank you to everyone who has stuck with us through the rollercoaster - the end is in sight!
Stealth System
The Stealth System has been overhauled and now features suspicious enemies, improvements for melee and ranged stealth builds, and new bonuses for generally behaving like a cyberninja.
- Idle enemies no longer instantly detect the player on a failed stealth check. Instead, enemies now become Suspicious and enter a heightened state of awareness, searching more frequently depending on their level of suspicion and recognition. This greatly improves stealthy players trying to approach an enemy and catch them unaware.
- Enemies that are suspicious may alert nearby allies about their suspicions, depending on their savvy and sociability.
- Suspicious enemies will gradually become less suspicious, provided you aren’t already knifing them in the back or firing off a merc rifle while wearing heavy armor boots.
- Unaware enemies no longer lose their Unaware status when hit with an Instant attack - so you can now chain Instant abilities that benefit from Unaware enemies!
Ability Changes
- Abilities with bonuses against Unaware targets have updated descriptions.
- Cyberninja’s Assassin Strike / Shot is now always Instant and when Perked deals increased damage and briefly Stuns.
- Engineer Mech Parts now require a stack of 3 to grant a permanent Upgrade to a Mech, upgrades are now logged in the console, and Mech Minions have a reduced wander chance.
Out with Arcane, in with Psi
- Arcane damage (which was largely unused) has been replaced with Psi damage, which represents general psychic trauma from being attacked by a psyker. Most Humanoid enemies now have little to no Psi resistance, while Mechanical enemies now have moderate to high Psi resistance.
- Psi damage has now been added to several abilities :
Hacker’s Mindmelt now deals Psi damage and reduces Psi resistance when dealing damage.
Thought Leader’s Join Us! now deals Psi damage.
Void Psyker’s Essence Drain now deals Psi damage.
Xenobiologist’s Warp Wave has been renamed Psi Wave and now deals Psi damage.
Force Psyker’s Slam now deals Psi damage.
Punishments from the Cursed! skill tree now deal Psi damage.
- The Force Psyker, Prototype, and Cybertechnician skill trees now give Psi resistance bonuses when unlocking new tiers.
- The Void Psyker now loses Psi resistance when unlocking new tiers. The more you stare into the abyss, the more it stares into you.
- Rare enemies that previously had Arcane effects now have Psi effects.
Fixes

- Fixed an issue with Vendordamus selling exorbitantly priced and empty mystery loot crates after the player visits the apartment for the first time - thanks Jerry!
- Fixed an issue with world UI elements on the Bio Labs level not responding to input when Permanent Free Look is enabled - thanks Jerry!

Slipping from the shadows into 2023 is a new update… Cyberninja, Smuggler, Void Psyker and Force Psyker trees are now complete! Engineer, Space Pirate and the utility skill trees will be following in a minor patch. The next major patch will unlock the 5th floor near the heart of Chimera’s operations : the Bio Labs.
Cyberninja abilities have been revisited and improved to reward stealthy gameplay and bonuses versus those Unaware targets. Once you’ve racked up some kills (and blown your cover), unleash the Rolling Thunder to rampage from target to target.
NEW Cyberninja Abilities
- Assassin Strike / Shot Attack with your main hand weapon and deal bonus damage. If the target is Unaware, this ability is Instant.
Perk : The Professional. Assassin Strike / Shot deals increased damage if the target is Unaware.

Perk : Stormfall. When an enemy dies while Rolling Thunder is active, activate Surge.

Perk : Wanted Dead (Not Alive). If the target dies while Bounty is active, recoup the credits you paid and Bounty loses only 50% of damage boost.

1.1 (2024-05-17)
Happy launch week! I'm blown away by your positive reviews (and spicy ones!), feedback, and suggestions. I've already got to work on them - take a look:
Fixes:
- Fixed an issue preventing Gadgeteer’s Upcycle from triggering when disarming a trap. Thanks Oskar!
- Fixed an issue with Big Guns Old Faithful displaying incorrect tooltip information.
- Fixed Heavy Weapons’s Expert (Rifle) Rake ability being on continuous cooldown and clarified tooltip to show the cooldown is based on the number of targets attacked. Thanks Oskar!
- Fixed a bug preventing Barbarian’s Execute from going on cooldown. While entertaining, also insane. Thanks Oskar!
- Fixed an issue with Bullet Farmer’s Gathering Storm passive stating it provided Strength (it actually provides Ranged Power) and the perk activating with no perk point applied. Thanks Oskar!
- Fixed an issue with the Plants vs Mutts event in the Bio Labs preventing the player from leaving if they failed the event and mutagenic energy was below 10. Restarting the event will now restore mutagenic energy to 10. Thanks Kosiarz!
- Thanks Oskar!!!

1.0.1 (2024-05-13)
StarCrawlers Chimera v1.0 is live!
What’s new in v1.0?
Quite a few things. Primarily:
- The final floors of the Chimera building are unlocked.
- You can now level to 30+ to fully unlock all trees in most build combinations.
- New enemies, weapons, gear, quest rewards, and boss loot across all floors.
- New sassy UI polish and improved menu functionality.
- Achievements are live.
- Dr. Cerberus is waiting for you. Good luck!
Where’s my controller support?
It’s on the way! As noted in the Steam forums, it’s an involved process to add controller support to a complex interface that was primarily built around mouse and keyboard input. Adding properly integrated controller support is my top priority for the first systems update.
Where’s ChimeraLinq?
The ambient ChimeraLinq system and ChimeraLinq holoslates can be found on all maps. The (optional) interactive element of ChimeraLinq was very thin on content, so I made the decision to temporarily disable it. I know some of you love you internet drama, and I want to do it justice, so ChimeraLinq will make a triumphant return with a new look and more shade-throwing in the first content update.
When is the game coming to Linux and OSX?
Now that the PC launch is out and the game is (mostly) stable, I have time to look into the Linux and OSX deployments. I’ll provide updates on these when I have information to share!
