Release Notes for Not For Broadcast

Chinese Dubbing and Profile Update - March 4th 2022

The long-awaited Chinese dubbing is here! Thank you to all our Chinese-speaking broadcasters for their patience but we are very happy to announce that NFB is now completely dubbed into Mandarin.

And not just that, oh no! We've also decided to completely redesign how we save your progress.

The game now has a 'Profile' system where all of your individual save games and playthroughs, rushes, adverts, epilogues and rewards are saved together under an overarching Profile. All of your progress is kept together in one place, and you can have as many profiles as you'd like, so your Grandma can start her own game if she wants. You go grandma.

If you're new to the game, simply create a profile and you're good to go. Existing players can either combine their existing saves into a profile, convert individual games or start a new one. We save your Legacy saves in case you want to convert them later, but feel free to delete them to save space on your system.

We hope you're all staying safe and well. Our love goes out to all of our Broadcasters facing difficult times.

Patch 2022.01.28b - Jan 28 2022

Hey, broadcasters!

We have been truly overwhelmed by the reaction in the days since Not For Broadcast's release. Thank you all so much for your lovely reviews.

But! We have fixed a few minor bugs as a special treat, just for you. (I know, we shouldn't have!)

Patch notes

The 'Play Your Way' Update is OUT NOW - Jan 05th 2021

We did it! Another update.

First, as always a quick thank you to all the Broadcasters that have brought Not For Broadcast to this point. We are now frighteningly close to beginning principal photography on Episode Three, but first, it’s time for another update - and it’s a big one!

Alongside bug fixes and optimisations the Play Your Way Update includes:

Full Controller Support

You can now play the entire game on the controller of your choice - with fully-remappable controls and on-screen prompts.

Difficulty Modes

Whether you’re a veteran broadcaster looking for a new challenge, or if all that stress just isn’t your vibe - there’s a mode for you. NFB now includes 3 levels of difficulty: Intern, Broadcaster and Showrunner. At each level the broadcast room is more intense, and the audience at home more fickle.

Story Mode

On top of that we’re introducing Story Mode. Here you can focus on enjoying the story of NFB without any of the stress. Edit the news without those pesky extra mechanics and multi-tasking to worry about.

Customisable Gameplay

But we’ve gone EVEN FURTHER. We are now putting the power in players’ hands to truly ‘Play Your Way’. In the past, we’ve been reticent about changing the core experience of the game because we believe that the feeling of stress is integral to the story we are telling. But we also believe that players should be able to play their games in the way that works best for them. So, although we have our vision for how we think Not For Broadcast should feel to players, we want to hand that decision to you. New Custom Difficulty allows you to individually alter the difficulty of, or even turn off, certain mechanics if they are negatively affecting your experience of the game.

Accessibility Settings

We’ve added a range of accessibility settings to support our players with various visual, audio and motor needs. You can now change the size, colour and background of subtitles, remove confusing visual effects, turn on visual HUD cues, as well as extensive colourblind support where important colours can be individually customised.

We hope you enjoy this latest batch of features, but there’s no time to relax! We’ll be shooting the ending of the game over the summer in our longest and most complicated shoot yet. Simultaneously we’ll be beavering away on an overhaul to the Challenges. Our next update is still on schedule for the end of Summer/start of Autumn.

Thanks to all of you for your support and a big thank you to our Accessibility Focus Group for their feedback.

Keep Broadcasting, NotGames

Update (January 28th 2021)

Episode 2 Is Here!

Hi Broadcasters! We are delighted (and if we’re honest, a little relieved) to announce that Not For Broadcast: Episode 2 is now live!!

NFB has just doubled in size. Yes, that’s right doubled! With three full levels, 24 adverts and countless new narrative branches for you to explore. Get ready to feel the consequences of your choices like never before, as the story takes a darker turn and temperatures rise in, and out, of the Newsroom.

With balancing changes, updated mechanics and visuals throughout the game, including a much improved Interference System and a more cinematic experience between levels, for the best experience we recommend players start a New Game or try the tutorial before jumping into the new content!

So whether you’re a rule follower or a rule breaker, fighting for free speech or toeing the government line, it’s time to get back in the hot seat and ask yourself: Are you sure you’re on the right side?

Available as a free update to you smarty-pants that already own the game and an absurdly reasonable price of $14.99 to you brilliant chaps who have decided that a Full Motion Video Newsroom simulator with a cast of 175 shot during global pandemic is worth a look.

If a bi-weekly stream simply wasn’t enough NotTime for you (and who could blame you), you can now spend an hour or so with the cast and crew exploring how we created an FMV game in a pandemic. Exploring the important questions such as ‘what is your favourite flavour crisp?’, our documentary, Lights, Camera, Lockdown,

Update (28 September 2020)

Hi folks!

If you're familiar with our game, you know how things often spiral out of control in its universe. You may also know that game development is quite chaotic in nature. This usually means delaying game releases.

But in our case, we're releasing our second Bonus chapter ahead of the schedule! What else did you expect from an FMV game filmed during a global pandemic?

Now, let's brush up on the update's content:

The Telethon

A brand new chapter, set in the 50s, is officially live! Featuring familiar faces and over an hour of new content.

Challege Room

A Whole New Challenge "Censorship Gone Mad" has been added to the game! Try your hand at some extreme censorship. Complete challenges and earn cosmetics. Master each challenge to add some weird and wonderful items to your challenge room.

And stay tuned for some more Challenge Room content that is coming very soon!

Привет. 你好 .

As promised, full Russian and Chinese voiceovers have been added to the game. Let us know in the comments below which voiceovers you'd like to see added next. No promises though!

That's all we have for now. Talk to you soon,

Your Pals,

NotGames

Update (24 February 2020)

Good tidings to all,

The Week 3 Patch is here! Level Select has now been added!

Have you ever wanted to replay a segment to really nail that A+? Or perhaps you're a content hunter, trying to find all the branching stories hidden in Not For Broadcast? Or maybe you just forgot what exactly happened in Segment 2 of the second Broadcast and want a refresher.

No longer will you be shackled to the tyranny of starting a new game to play a level! No my friends, we have unlocked the power of something infamous, throughout all genres of gaming: the ever-saving Checkpoint.

Now, when you go to load a game, you will find the current checkpoint is loaded, and all previous unlocked checkpoints available to load as well. So feel free to keep one profile, jump back, change your choices and play forward to see those consequences...

(Please note: While this will not interrupt any existing progress you have, these checkpoints will only be saved for gameplay after the Patch. The save data has been altered, so it is not possible to go back to levels played before this Patch dropped without starting a new game.)

While implementing this, we have also updated your save game overwrite permissions, so those pesky Prologue profile names will not prove a hindrance to creating your epic story. Yes, we're thinking of you J3r3myDonals0n_Lover47. You go for it!

Finally, as well as some nips and tucks in terms of typos, we've also cut down the size of save game files, which wile not as problematic now might have been ungainly down the line.

As always, if you have any issues or feedback, let us know in the discussions on Discord! Now go out there and be the best damn broadcasters you can be.

Have a peaceful night, NotGames
