1.4a (2023-12-28)
It took us WAY longer than we anticipated, but the 1.4 update is finally here. It consists of a huge number of bug fixes, plus many QoL improvements.
This update is compatible with your existing save games, but if you want the best experience, we advise to start a new game (some bugs will still persist on save games from 1.3).
Changes and improvements
- Updated Unity version from 5.5.3 to 2021.3.30. This means less software and hardware conflicts, better performance and less crashes.
- Fixed the vast majority of known bugs. We couldn't fix them all though (but believe me, we tried!).
- Fixed many issues with newer Mac systems.
- Fixed many issues on Linux.
- Fixed achievements not unlocking for many players.
- Added better 4k support.
- Updated the UI in some places.
- Added the Automagical Save File Corruption Recovery System. If your saves get corrupted / deleted, the system will try to use the back ups without any input from your part.
- Many performance improvements.
- If you have a key to open a door, the default action for this door will be to use the key, so you don't need to open up the context menu anymore.
- Some minor changes to the Prologue.
- Some general rebalancing, mostly in the second chapter.
- Added French localization.
- The gamepad control scheme and UI has received many improvements.

The fixes before version Release Candidate 21 have been mostly lost due to different people restarting work on the update and the Stadia port being worked on simultaneously.

- Floating text are now frame independent so they don't disappear before they are fully shown if you have a very low framerate.
- The bug with player being not able to pick the flamethrower in the epilogue has been fixed (sorry Markiplier!).

Changes:
- better 2K and 4K support has been added - text and UI elements should now scale much better in higher resolutions
- added additional save backup to minimize the impact of potential crashes or save data corruption; keep in mind that the system is not perfect and in some severe cases the data about the difficulty setting can be lost
- removed Molotov cocktails from the prologue due to multiple issues being generated by them
- amount of scrap needed to fix a generator for a family in the Swamp has been reduced
- Night Trader and The Three found neat staffs in the forest, they will try to sell them to you now
- The Three also made better sack as the staff takes a lot of space
- durability of 9V batteries has been improved, thus both flashlights are now more efficient

Changes:
- Reverted to Unity 2021.3.30
- Steam DRM has been added to the Windows and Linux builds to limit cases of Steam overlay not being displayed correctly in the game.
- Some achievements are now retroactively unlocked when loading a saved game.
- Achievements are now additionally stored locally. In the event that they did not properly unlock when they should, the game checks for such achievements when loading a saved game.
- The amount of damage taken from poison vines has been lowered.
- Some vendors now have expanded inventory space.
- The cost of crafting a Lantern has been reduced.
- Someone left a Lantern inside the Workbench in the Swamp. Feel free to take it.
- Speaking of Workbenches, we tasked Piotrek with upgrading them. After long considerations and careful planning, he nailed an additional plank of wood to the side of each Workbench in the game, thus expanding them by one row.
- The bonus dream from Indiegogo content is displayed now as one of the last ones.
- Lowered amount of free roaming mobs in Chapter 2
Bug Fixes:
- Fixed instance of blocking playable character’s movement on all save profiles occurring if the player deletes the profile during the second part of the prologue.
- Fixed instances of profiles not showing up occurring if the player leaves the game during the first part of the prologue.
- Fixed one of the doors in Wedding that prevented the players from finishing the event. WARNING - unfortunately due to system limitations this fix likely won’t repair save files already afflicted by the bug.
- Fixed text scaling on the notes and other collectible items.
- Fixed edge cases related to the save recovery system.
- Fixed ESC/Start spam bug that could result in the playable character loading incorrectly during the prologue.
- Fixed containers UI for controller not being scrollable in 2K and 4K.
