We have fixed a bug that caused that increasing the level of a crew member several times would add more points than it should.

We have fixed a loading bug that caused softlocks in some events.

Update 0.5.2.8

We have fixed a bug that caused a softlock on certain events, when there were other events on the same planet or station.
We have fixed a bug that caused a softlock when entering planets with a certain event configuration.
We have fixed a bug that moved the exit button of the planets off the screen when there were 4 events available on the planet. In these cases, now the hangar will not be displayed until one of the events is resolved, leaving space for the exit button.
We have fixed a bug that caused a softlock in the Hunting Party event (#269) when by coincidence there was an interception while Hollow was speaking.
We have fixed a visual bug that overlapped event markers on planets when there was more than one. Now the planet markers are displayed side by side.

We have fixed a bug that caused some weapons placed on the ship not to load.
A bug that allowed to buy a weapon in development (weapon 67) has been fixed. The new version replaces the weapon 67 with a Light Guided Missile Launcher.
We have fixed a code error that caused issues in some texts when calculating the variations according to the choices made by the player.
We have fixed a bug that caused the credits not to be updated when starting a research.
The Russian translation has been updated.
Several grammatical errors have been corrected.

Mines can now be destroyed with the ships main weapons.
Mines and pulse mines have been doubled in size to make them easier to see and dodge.
Mines dropped by NPCs have been reduced by half.
The time the player is stunned has been reduced by half.
The damage to shields of the Heavy Pulse Generator has been reduced.
We have fixed several bugs in the Sol Invictus mission (#299).
We have fixed a bug that miscalculated the material bonuses in the weapons crafting.
A warning now appears to alert that there are too many saves when the player has saved more than 50 games. If the save file is too large, performance will be affected.
We have fixed a bug that showed the punctuation symbols in italics in Russian language.
Voice messages now take 10% longer to disappear when playing in Russian to allow time to read them.

We've fixed a crash in the startup of the game that happened when the system swapped over to the newer save system that was introduced in 0.4.7 and when the files had certain Chinese characters in the save files.

A bug that caused soft locks when crew members were injured during text events has been fixed.
A bug that caused only male recruits to be created in stations has been fixed.
Now the information for the mission "The Burrow" (#107) shows the destination sector.
A soft lock in the missions "The Emperor" and "The Genesis" (#301, #302, #303), has been fixed.
Various grammar and spelling mistakes have been corrected.

The functionality of the backup system has been modified to ensure that the backup save never gets corrupted.

A bug that showed an erroneous amount of damage to shields in the ship's statistics has been fixed.
A bug in the event "Bounty Hunter: Edward D." (#275) that caused the destruction of the player's ship when warping after loading a save file has been resolved.
A bug that caused events that haven't been finished yet to be triggered has been fixed.
Soft locks in the events "Heads or Tails" (#254), "Maiden Abyss" (#257, #259, #262, #263 and #265), "The Emperor" (#301) and "The Genesis" (#303 and #304) have been fixed.

Repair costs in stations have been reduced.
Now you can select which ship you want to repair in the stations.
Now the hull status of the wingman's ships is saved when you unassign them from your ship.
The hull and shield resistances of wingman's ships have been increased.
A bug in the wingman's stats has been fixed.
A soft lock in the mission "Recovery" (#128) has been fixed.
A soft lock in the mission "Presentations" (#224) has been fixed.
A bug in the mission "Kendra Mason" (#162) has been fixed.
A bug that caused wingman game objects to be destroyed when the played changed the ship has been fixed.
A bug that caused players to lose their main story wingmen has been fixed. If it happened to you, please, load an older saved game to fix the issue.

Update 0.5.1 (5 May 2021)

A new subordinate system is active. You can now hire captains and equip their ships to fight alongside you.
The reward for prisoners has been increased to 600 credits.
Enemies can now use skills.
Two quantum cores are given for each scrapped weapon now.
There is now a small chance that quantum cores will appear when looting ships.
You can now hold tab and press numbers to activate and deactivate groups of weapons without going through the weapon wheel.
A backup system has been added to the save system to avoid game corruption. If a save file becomes corrupted or lost, starting the game again will use the backup to restore the game.
The space of items in the inventory has been increased.
Fixed a bug in event #196 that prevented a crew member from being lost.
Fixed the trigger condition of a Zane event (# 364) that caused it to appear before it was met.
We've fixed a softlock in the mission Round of Questions (# 241).
A bug has been fixed that made it impossible to scroll with the mouse wheel when the cursor was over an item.
Many spelling errors have been fixed, many of them related to the gender of the characters.

Repair kits have been added that allow the ship to be repaired without returning to the stations. Kits can be purchased from system shops or found as a reward on enemies.
A system has been added to show the damage done. This system can be disabled and configured in Settings > Game.
Hard difficulty mode has been added. In this mode, ships have 50% more health and shields, dice rolls are more difficult, enemies in dice battles are more dangerous, there is less loot, and interceptions are more frequent.
An additional step has been added at the start of the campaign, where you can select the basic settings of the game.
Illustrations have been added to the events in Xeah, The Living Bay and Sharp Hill.
Now you can abandon the contracts that are obtained in the stations.
Now weapon groups can be activated or deactivated using keys 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 in the weapon group activation menu.
Now when a weapon is dragged from the store, the inventory will automatically show the weapon section.
Now when an object is dragged from the store, the inventory will automatically show the object section.
A system has been created to adjust the difficulty of dice rolls in side missions.
A system has been created to adjust the difficulty of dice battles in side missions.
The amount of credits that are obtained in loot has been increased.
Now you get more credits when selling weapons.
The projectile speed of Plasma cannons has been increased to have the same projectile speed of the Cannons of the Republic.
A large update has been made to the save system.
Now all game data is saved in a single file.
When the new version is run for the first time, it will back up the game and go through the process to transfer all data to the new save system.
The new save system avoids the corruption errors that occasionally occurred to some players.
The bug reporting system has been improved, now they are sent much faster.
A bug that did not allow to deactivate the VI weapon group has been fixed.
The lighting in the reverse engines of the Genesis has been fixed.
A bug in the systems ability WS-100 Energy Converter that bugged the shields when used at when they were full has been resolved.

What is coming As you know, in the latest update we mention that Chapter V would be ready by the end of December. Unfortunately this won't be possible. We need more time to do a good job so the Chapter V update has been delayed. We plan to release it in February. We are doing our best to have a great update, so please be patient. :)

The compression of some textures has been improved to increase performance. The game will now occupy less disk space (2.70 GB).
We have modified the code to make it render better during battles. During Early Access we will continue making this aspect even better.
We have modified the loot system. Now you get more material types as well as salvageable objects. We have also incremented the possibility of gaining weapons. In future updates we will adjust the earnings to balance the game.
We have added “junk” items. These items serve to sell them or salvage them.
Now the inventory is split into three sections: Weapons, Inventory (items) and Passengers. By doing this we have tripled inventory space.
We have re-designed the Departments tab. With this redesign we have tried to: lessen the number of clicks needed to do any task, speed up actions and semi-automate the departments themselves.
Now departments have a 4-slot queue space. This way the player doesn’t have to be as on top of them as they used to.
We have added a window to select the language where it shows the translation status of each language.
Now when you launch the game for the first time it shows the language select screen.
We have added the following languages: Russian, Chinese (simplified), Dutch, German, French and Italian. These languages depend on community translations there are still numerous texts without translation. During Early Access the languages will continue to be translated. Thank you so much to the volunteers that are helping us!
A bug in the damage in the upgraded IL55 Laser Interceptor has been solved.
We have solved a bug in saves that duplicated one of the discovered cures.
A bug that repeatedly triggered the last of the Ancient Tablet events when the player doesn't have the tablet has been fixed.

We've added the crew Reserve.
Crew can now be sent to the reserve in order to make space for others in the active crew.
When you gain additional crew members and there is no space in the current crew, the new crew member will go to the reserve.
Crew members gain 50% less experience if they are in the reserve.
Reserve crew do not give bonus points nor can they be injured.
When the player ends up without specialists, engineers or scientists, the Republic will send two new crew members of that class to the ship. We are still awaiting the voiceovers for when this happens.
We have solved numerous bugs and corrected many grammatical errors.

Ship quest system

A new internal quest system was added. The ship's events view can be accessed by pressing "U". In future updates, past events will be adapted into this system.

Graphical improvements: depth of field

A depth of field effect has been added to the station, planet, and ship views. It can be disabled in settings.

Improvements to the current text style

Event dialogue format was changed. Double quotes were eliminated and now all dialogue is in italics with a soft yellow hue. Also, crew members' names will be highlighted with the respective class colour.

We've just updated Between the Stars to version 0.2.0.5.0. This new patch updates the graphical engine to a more modern version which should fix many of the crashes caused by said engine. From now on we will focus on adding new content without forgetting to fix bugs that you report to us.

In this update we've rebalanced crew combat, giving more protection to crew members.
We've modified the player's combat dice.
The dice faces with a hand on them that used to give an extra action point have now been changed to a shield that adds armor to two random crew members.
In crew combat we've changed the way the enemy targets the crew. Now there will be less probabilities to attack crew members with only one point of life.
We've increased the gain of action points in crew combat, it will allow the player to use more items and be less dependent of the dice rolls.
Now combat will begin with 2 action points instead of 1.
Now the items will be shown in an inferior panel instead of the left panel.
We've added a basic crew combat weapon: Republic Pistol. It'll be avaiable in all crew combats.
We've added a new crew combat item: Healing Plasma. It heals 1 of life of a selected crew member.
We've added a new crew combat item: Plasma Injector. It heals 2 of life of a selected crew member.
We've added a new crew combat item: Resuscitation Kit. It reanimates a death crew member.
The transition between camera modes has been smoothed.

We remade the way that attributes are saved. This should fix all the errors related with attributes that some players are suffering since the version 0.2.0.3.5.
This version fixes the saved games with duplicated attributes.

A bug that allowed players to use the sniper rifle an infinite number of times has been fixed.

A bug that made the mouse cursor dissapear and disabled some buttons when the player had a HOTAS plugged in has been fixed.
With this fix now the game can be played with HOMAS (flight stick + mouse), players will have to assign controls in settings before playing with HOMAS. Gamepad control is still not supported but we plan to work on it soon.
We've delayed a few seconds the automatic equipment of weapons before changing the ship, it could solve the loss of equipment that some players are suffering.
A bug that softlocked the game in the prologue should be fixed.
A bug that changed the window resolution for the screen resolution in windowed mode on game start has been fixed.

The bug in game saving that caused loss of progress has been fixed. This bug also causes loss of the locations of both contracts as well as main missions. Now, saving should function as intended, but if you see something wrong, please send a bug report. Sadly, corrupted games can not be recovered, so, if you've lost progress due to the bug you'll need to start a new game. Sorry for the trouble.
We've added an indicator that shows when the auto aim system is enabled.

A bug that allowed the missile launchers to launch a missile per frame has been fixed.
Now weapons won't fire when the player is looting a ship with auto aim mode activated.
